Day 14 in Taiwan, Day 5 in Taipei - Tamsui Old Street ~ Fisherman Wharf ~ Bali

Day 14 in Taiwan, Day 5 in Taipei ~ Tamsui Old Street, Fisherman Wharf & Bali

淡水老街, 淡水漁人碼頭 & 八里

Direction:
Alight at Danshui / Tamsui Station 淡水 (Red) Line. The ride is roughly 40 minutes from Taipei Main Station

Getting to Bali ~ it is an island opposite Danshui Old Street. Simply board the cruise towards bali and pay the fare by using EasyCard. (If you are going to 淡水漁人碼頭, You will need to take another ferry that departs to 淡水漁人碼頭 - FYI, You need to check with the person at the ticket booth if you want to travel from Tamsui ~ Bali ~ Yu Ren Ma Tou or VS. When I was there, there was no ferry going this route, hence I had to take the ferry from Bali back to Tamsui and to
                                                        Yu Ren Ma Tou.

That day was a hot and humid day. After crossing the sea, I rented the bicycle for the entire day at NT100 nett (with my class 3 driving licence and a deposit of 100NT for a free rental lock). The auntie is very kind and provided free flow water bottles. Compared to other bicycle shops, this shop is rather pricey as other shops rent a bicycle at 50NT for the entire day but they do not provide free lock and free flow of water bottles. Technically, I did not go around checking the rates at other bicycle shops as the above shop is the first one i chanced upon after alighting at Bali and I only got to know the rates of other bicycle shops while cycling along the road as there was the price sign stated outside. In addition, I heard from a hong kong girl whom I met while cycling.

Below are places I have set my foot on during my cycling journey in Bali...

    The toilets are very clean!

We arrived at Shi-san Hang Museum of Archaeology that tells the story of Bali, one of north Taiwan's earliest settlements, and a prosperous town hunderds of years before Taipei existed. I watched an introduction video before touring the museum and i find it very infprmative that helped me understand the settlements and museum's structure before I embark on my F&E museum tour. The video lasted around 5-10minutes.

Getting There: The museum is easy to reach. The address is 200, Bowuguan Road, Bali, Taipei County. Visitors can take the MRT to Kuandu Station (on the Danshui line), then take the Red 13 shuttle bus to the museum. For a more leisurely journey with better views en route, take the ferry from Danshui to Bali, get the bus, or walk (about 50 minutes), or even hire a bike and ride along the riverbank to the museum.

There are some interactive activities that are interesting and meaningful and is suitable for all ages.
You can get your name printed on adorable antiques!

I left Bali at approx. 3pm and took a ferry back to Tamsui then to Fisherman's Wharf to see the Lover's Bridge and indulge in seafood etc. Taking ferry from DanShui to Fisherman Wharf...

Lover's Bridge

It is quite nice but slightly sticky. If you are there, you should not miss it.

Beautiful Sunset @ Fisherman's Wharf

Magnificent Sunset @ Fisherman's Wharf
As it was Wednesday and there were some renovations going on, there were not many shops opened and there was no crowd. I took the ferry back to Tamsui Old Street after watching the sunset at Fisherman's Wharf. I reached Tamsui Old Street close to 7pm and had my dinner at the shop shown below.

Food to eat @ 淡水老街, Tamsui Old Street

Ah-Gei (阿給) This shop is located at the main road which makes it very easy to locate. It is famous and is known to be the authentic shop that sells Ah-Gei (阿給)... Basically Ah-Gei (阿給) is a fried tofu stuffed with glass noodles. The taste is very unique and the sauce and the toufu skin is e key to the level of delicious. If you are going in the evening, please do not expect tip-top service as there will be many people queuing for the food. As such, their service can be almost average or below average.. It is worth trying the Ah-Gei (阿給) at this stall and the Fuzhou fishball stuffed if you have never tried before.

This is another shop that I would recommend if you are thinking of buying back some nice drinks that are good for health and eyes. However, do make some space and weigh for these drinks as one packet weighs around 500g so if there is promotion going on; buy 3 get 1 free....You need to consider your luggage weight...
